The Sound Room, founded by Taylor Johnson, started selling Russian-manufactured microphone products in the summer of 1998. Our personal commitment to sourcing  the finest quality at the best prices has led us to work directly with the engineers from such famous mic labs as Oktava, Lomo, Nikfi, Elation, Byetone and Nevaton.

We have also had a direct hand in the start-up research and manufacturing companies AEG and RTT (Russian Transducer Technologies) - plus, of course, our development of the T.H.E. range of ultra high quality studio microphones. At the Sound Room, we are proud to specialize in  our own and Russian microphone products - plus great, low-cost and efficient accessories we have exhaustively tested ourselves.

Our original microphone inspiration was the conviction that the "Russian-sound" is accurate, yet more pleasing than many of the high-priced foreign and US-made microphones. Now, with 8 more years of research and development behind us, we have been able to create, manufacture, tune and re-invent capsules that are optimized for todays' low-noise digital recording environment.

We are constantly working to improve our products in the marketplace and the field. We enjoy speaking with our clients and other engineers and particularly like feedback on how the products are performing. Our user's comments really do get back to the designers and engineers making these products.

We enjoy creating (or seeking out) new accessories, new electronics or new (and vintage) microphone technology. We have even helped re-create some classic designs as well as re-build, or resurrect lesser-known experimental or limited-production units. Our experiments and modifications have now led us to manufacture a hand-built line of high-performance microphones and blank media under the name T.H.E. (Taylor Hohendahl Engineering) .
